THE MATTS is a cinematic storytelling focused production company based in Los Angeles, CA. Founded by Matt Law and Matt Thompson, the duo emphasizes the creation of compelling content and intriguing stories, providing the entire gamut of a production, from writing, to shooting, to editing.
THE MATTS have established partnerships with service providers from drone operators and equipment rental houses, to composer & musicians as well as VFX companies, creating a one-stop-shop experience that promises passion and quality.
Matt Thompson was recently featured in Variety's Rising Stars profile for the top film students to watch around the country. At age 23, Thompson has already written and directed 3 feature-length films, numerous shorts, commercials, Virtual Reality Experiences and has been distinguished nationally for storytelling endeavors. At 15, he wrote, directed and produced an 80-minute feature length film, "The Medallion of Man" (2010), which premiered at La Paloma Theater in Encinitas, CA. At 17, he wrote and directed a 90-min sci/fi feature film, "Night Sights" (2012), which won the Jury Award for Best Feature Film at the National Film Festival for Talented Youth 2012, Seattle, and took the Silver Award at the California Film Awards. It was picked up by ITN Distribution, and has since been sold at international film markets around the world. Thompson was a Semi-Finalist for the Student Academy Awards for his recent Spaghetti Western short, Wild West Fan Co. (2015), and now a recent graduate of Loyola Marymount University School of Film and Television, is in post-production a new mystery/comedy feature-length film, DEBUNKERS, INC., which will be released Summer 2017. He is the co-founder and director of independent production company, The Matts Productions LLC, and is the founder, director and executive producer of Matt Thompson Immersive (MTI), an immersive entertainment studio, with an original Virtual Reality series, "AFTER” – a series of immersive journeys, where the audience can experience in a first person point of view, the exploration beyond death into the Afterlife, in ways conceived from all over the world. AFTER is available on Samsung VR, and will be featured at VRLA 2017. Thompson has spoken on numerous panels and talk-radio shows about storytelling in virtual reality.
Originally hailing from Seattle, Matthew Law is an award winning recent graduate from LMU's School of Film and Television where he was able to attend through the Keven J. Davis Scholarship and received the distinction as being ranked highest in his class with the Top Production Student accolade. Adept in a multitude of positions within production, Matthew has received international awards for his talents in writing, cinematography, directing and editing. Such awards include the Peer Achievement distinction from the Images of Youth festival, official selections within the Derek Freese Film Festival, the 2015 GI Film Festival, the National Film Festival for Talented Youth, the Rio De Janeiro Film Festival in Brazil, a Regional Semi-Finalist Nominee from the National Academy of Arts & Sciences, and a winner of the Nike 48 Hour Film Festival. Matthew has also had extensive experience within the professional realm of film production as a lead camera operator and editor for Nick Cannon’s company within Nickelodeon, as an assistant editor and camera assistant to Sundance Short Film Award Winner Kahlil Joseph, an assistant editor to Jiro Dreams of Sushi Director of Photography Brandon Driscoll-Luttringer and as a digital production assistant at NBCUniversal, as well as a Creative Assistant to the leading music video production house - London Alley. Matt is now focused on his role as co-founder of The Matts along with Matt Thompson, as well as fulfilling his ultimate dreams of saving the world and one day becoming a space cowboy, and or crime-fighting vigilante.
